Daddy, Papa + Me at the Hospital the day after I was born
One Day Old Sebastian

Daddy, Papa...

...or whatever you grew up calling your male parental unit, many of those who are gay never thought we would hear someone calling us by one of those names. As a matter of fact, for those of us in Florida, we were constitutionally banned from adopting until 2010.

Thankfully, things have changed for the better, but let's face it, for any couple, adoption can be a daunting process. We're hoping to help change that. My husband, Nick, and I had the benefit of working with Amy Imber with Connecting Hears Adoption Services and she was instrumental in helping us adopt our son.

Nicholas and I discussed adopting before we were engaged to be married in 2016. We met Amy with Connecting Hearts in 2017 but agreed to wait until Nicholas completed his MBA before submitting the home study paperwork in October 2018. We were notified that we might have a potential match with a son in late spring. In June, we welcomed Sebastian into our hearts and our home, and the adoption was finalized in October 2019.

Our goal is to help share some of our learnings with others who are starting on their adoption journeys. While this site is for a school project, the names and contact information of the attorneys, consultants, agencies, and adoption resources are real. Only the "ads" are made up as those companies don't exist.

Oh, and if you don't think you are the target demographic for this site, rest assured that the partners listed on this site are committed to inclusivity!
